The Chellaram Diabetes Institute (CDI) is an initiative by the Chellaram Foundation, a not-for-profit organization from Pune, Maharashtra. This is a public charitable organization established in the memory of Late Kishinchand Chellaram and Late Lokumal Kishinchand Chellaram in 2008.
Lokumal Kishinchand founded the Lokumal Kishinchand Charity Trust in 1980 in India and embodied a mix of entrepreneurship and spirituality.
The Chellaram Diabetes Institute was established by his son, Lal Lokumal Chellaram as a philanthropic organization to continue the charitable vision of his late father. The foundation believes in promoting public health, education and research-oriented programs.

Defeat Diabetes 2008 – This extensive health-care initiative was started by Dr Chandalia’s Diabetes Endocrine Nutrition Management and Research Centre (DENMARC) and was solely sponsored by the Chellaram Foundation which was held in Mumbai between 23rd and 25th May, 2008.
Multi-centric, randomized, controlled trial of Yoga and Fenugreek in the prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus – The Indian Prevention of Diabetes Study (IPDS) – This was a 4-year long feasibility study that was sponsored by the Chellaram Foundation. It is continuing today by the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI). This study is being scheduled in metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pondicherry.
