Diagnosis and Treatment for Pituitary Tumor in India

What is a Pituitary Tumour?

The pituitary tumour originates in the pituitary gland which is essentially an endocrine gland. Endocrine gland means that the gland secretes their products and hormones directly into the blood stream rather than through ducts. The pituitary gland is pea sized. Situated at the base of the brain, its primary function is to control growth and development of the body and to also check and regulate normal functioning of other glands.

  • Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) that leads to formation of cortisol and impact the functioning of the heart leading to Cushing’s disease.
  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) that leads to excess of thyroid that in turn release excessive amount of thyroxin leading to hyperthyroidism.

2. Non-Functioning Tumors: These do not lead to excessive formation but can be dreadful if increased in size and begin to impact the normal functioning of pituitary gland.
